Alternate Education, Alternative Provision & Care Settings

The most important conversations don't always happen in a classroom.

They happen in a children's home on a Tuesday evening, in a one-to-one with a mentor, in a behaviour unit when something has just come to light, or in a foster carer's kitchen when a young person finally feels safe enough to open up. Built for Life Hub was built for exactly those moments.

Who we are

Between our team we bring over 50 years of frontline experience working with young people across some of the most challenging settings imaginable. There won't be much we haven't dealt with.

Our content creators are practitioners first. Between them they have worked as teachers, managed children's homes, worked in secure estates, held roles in social care, developed their own models of care, built and run businesses, and worked directly with young people facing exploitation, harmful behaviours, criminal justice involvement, family breakdown, and everything in between. Several hold specialist qualifications including AIMS training.

This isn't a team that read about these issues. This is a team that has lived them, worked them, and built something from that experience that means no adult ever has to face those moments alone, and no child ever has to go through them without the right support and direction.

We don't write from a distance. We write from the room.

Built for real life

Our audience isn't just teachers. It's foster carers, children's home staff, mentors, support workers, and behaviour unit leads — many of whom have no formal teaching background but are doing some of the most important work with young people in the country.

Traditional PSHE resources are built around planned delivery. The young people in these settings don't always have that luxury, and neither do the adults supporting them. When something serious comes to light, when a conversation takes an unexpected turn, or when a young person finally opens up about something that can't wait for a lesson plan, the adult in the room needs to respond with confidence.

Built for Life Hub gives them exactly that — a bank of ready-to-use sessions covering the real issues young people face, written to be picked up and delivered confidently by anyone, available the moment they are needed.

The topics that matter

Built for Life Hub covers the full range of issues that young people in these settings are actually facing — not a sanitised version of them. Sessions are available across areas including:

  • Gangs and criminal exploitation
  • Knife crime and violence
  • Violence against women and girls
  • Harmful sexual behaviour
  • Diversity, racism and identity
  • Relationships and healthy boundaries
  • Online safety and digital exploitation
  • Finance and life skills
  • Physical and mental health
  • Emotions, self-regulation and trauma
  • Confidence, identity and self-worth

This list doesn't stop there. If it's showing up in the lives of the young people you work with, there will be a session for it — and if not, we will create it.

Built around identity

Many of the young people in these settings have had their sense of identity shaped by difficult experiences, trauma, or environments that haven't always brought out the best in them. One of the most powerful things any adult can do is help a young person understand who they really are beyond those experiences.

Every session in Built for Life Hub is underpinned by this principle, helping young people build a genuine sense of self, recognise their own strengths, and develop the belief that their past does not define their future.
